Non-MUSE EVENT; EXTRA CREDIT
Right before I left for Thanksgiving I attended the Thanksgiving Fest at the Dinning Commons. I was just going in to grab a hamburger but ended up serving myself a couple plates instead. I have never seen so much food for such a little amount of students. Not to mention the different options you had to pick from. I thought it was kind of cool how they provided a Thanksgiving for those who had to stay home for the holiday and did the whole holiday theme for them as well. I probably gain about five pounds with the all the food I ate. Then went home a grabbed a bite to eat as well. Overall it was pretty cool for those students who were away from their family.
Degree Plan; EXTRA CREDIT
In order to accomplish my main focused goal, I must be fully committed and dedicated to my academic achievement. Being able to receive an Engineering Degree is one of the most challenging task any college student can try to obtain, however one of the most beneficial and rewarding as well. What makes this degree so hard are the high level of GE courses and pre-requisites that a student must pass in order to be allowed to get into his/her major. An engineer must complete 130 units to graduate. They are recommended to take between 18 and 16 units a semester for four years. Completing the degree in five years is also known as on time. Since, I have started by taking remedial math I plan to graduate in five years instead of four. In order to do so I must pass all my courses as scheduled. I will need to complete Calc. 1, 2 and 3 then take two semesters of differential equations. I am also one semester behind in my English class so I will need to complete that semester and take English 1A, 1B and an Engineering English course (100w). I plan on taking my English 1A and 1B online since every English course is so packed because of the limited amount of room. This semester I will take 19 units. 14 of them will be at state and the other 5 will be online which will include my English 1A and my general area D1. During the summer I will complete another six units online which will include my English 1B and my general areas D2 and C1. My main concern right now is my math courses due to the high level of classes I must complete. I also plan on taking such a great number of courses till I catch up to a four year plan level. This will help just in case I happen to fail a class, not that those are my intentions. This will also allow me to change my mind a couple years down the road just in case I decide to graduate in four years. Overall my courses are challenging but there are plenty of outside resources I can go get help from if I choose to. So, Failure should not be an option.
MUSE EVENT #3
Due to my class schedule I was not able to find another class member to attend my MUSE workshop with. I was able to go to a workshop called Spring Registration. There they went into specific things to look for when registration for classes (like the importance of reading the class description). How to be able to balance your schedule, so you allow yourself time to eat, rest and reorganize yourself for the following class. They also showed where it says the date your able to start registering for classes. I was unaware of the fact that students are only allow 14 units and anything after that you will have to go and ask for a code for a teacher for additional courses. They explained the whole hold situation and how it is so important to register as soon as it is off because that same day 3,000 other students could have their holds released as well. If students are on the waiting list the most recommended thing to do would be to attend the class (crash classes) the first day so hopefully you are allowed to join. They ended with teaching us about our degree progress and how to look for courses in certain areas like D1 for example. Over all this was an interesting workshop. I encourage everyone to attend it, even if you think you have the concept of registration down. It won’t hurt you.

Bucket List
In order to become the person I want to be, I must accomplish a great deal from now until then. Five years from now I plan on walking the red carpet and receiving my Civil Engineering Degree. In order to reach my goal I must settle myself down and fully commit to school 100%. Since Engineering takes such a great impact on students and makes them take some of the highest academic courses; I must ready to put aside weekends from partying and really stay focused. I’m going to have to do this in order to pass calculus and differential equations along with other difficult engineering courses.
Teen years from now I plan on working on my profession and being able to bring home a steady income. In order to reach this goal I must first accomplish my previous goal. I also must start researching on where I would like to live and available jobs for my profession in the area. Once I have figured out where I want to live. I can start trying to get a pre-professional job, which will allow my name through the door. The steady income comes with the degree and job title, so first I must establish a job.
Twenty years from now I don’t plan on working for a living anymore. The only way to reach my goal is to keep accomplishing my short term goals. Once I have started working I plan on taking a huge loan and opening up my own engineering firm somewhere down in Southern California. This will allow me to be able to quit my job and stat retirement at an early age. Are all short term financial goals I must accomplish in order to be whom I want to be in this life time.
Aside from reaching my financial goals I have I have other personal goals I must complete. I plan on traveling all through the pacific islands starting my trip on the beautiful island of Hawaii. In order to reach my goal I must allow myself to stay “baby free” until I’m ready to be a father. Safe 12 % so I will not feel such a great punch on my account when out on the trip. I must also go to work for a company that is able to provide rewards like sick days, vacation time, and etc.
Eventually I plan on living the American Dream. What I mean by this is I want to be married and have my own family. I want to be successful (doing what I wish to do in life). But I guess there is no way I can really prepare myself to have the ideal wife or family. Just have to wait and see how my little utopia works out. We all can’t pick what we want to be in life, or we would all be multi-millionaires with the perfect life. Only time and ones actions can tell what their destiny will and not all the time may that be correct either (there are always those high school drop outs that are lottery winners).

Non Muse Event #2
For my Non- Muse event I attended the Boys Basketball game, so I’ll write a quick short blog on it. This was my first time actually going to a college basketball game, and I came to the conclusion that television only shows the packed gyms on air. The basketball game was not sold out; it actually had a very small crowd for a college game. I went to this event with a large group of friends; out of the group of friends from the class was Roberto and Troy. I experienced a couple new things, for example how much faster the pace of the game is from High School to College and how much more athlete everyone is, not to mention the size difference. The crowd support wasn’t what I expected it to be, but then again SJSU is well known for their academics and not athletics. The boy’s team ended up winning the game by 20 something points and it was a great win to start the season off with. I do plan on attending more game in the future since I do enjoy watching athletics, except this time I will not put homework aside like a did the first time. I encourage everyone to come out and watch the sporting event and maybe we can support our campus with the same school spirit that other campuses like USC, UCLA, and SDSU have. Plus you get in free so who can beat that deal. Well, hopefully we bump heads at the next game.
P.S. Don’t be a stranger if we do! :-)

Lyrics Analysis

I chose to give my personal opinion on the song “Always” by Blink 182. This song starts off by talking about this couple who just doesn’t seem to have it all together, they’re slowly falling apart. The boyfriend in the relationship is trying to get everything back together while the girl keeps refusing and pushing him away. The whole time he just begs her back and takes blame for everything that has gone wrong in their relationship. The boyfriend keeps hearing stories of who she’s sleeping with. He tries to hide what he is feeling inside and lets it go. He is just sick of fighting.
These lyrics don’t mean a whole lot to me it is just one of those songs that I like. At times it brings back memories of that old high school sweetheart. How you’re always fuzzing and fighting. Once you leave her you hear stories of who she’s dating and the more you play it off the more it gets to you. You just feel like you’re the better man but your too cool to even look her way. It makes me think of how we guys think it is cool to do the whole messing around thing after a break up, but we don’t expect the girl to be one the same track. I just personally like this song because it was a good hit growing up, just one of those song everyone plays for no real reason. I guess I just use to the song. lol
OPENING LINES TO THE SONG
I've been here before a few times
And I'm quite aware we're dying
And your hands they shake with goodbyes
And i'll take you back if you'd have me
So here I am I'm trying
So here I am are you ready

Moment that Changed Rock ‘n’ Roll

Niggaz with attitude also known as N.W.A. released their hit album “Straight Outta Compton” in 1989. This group was formally known for talking about real life situations that were occurring in the suburbs. They kept it real talking about drug dealing, street violence, racial cops, and crack ho’s. With their Album on the way to the top of the charts, N.W.A. was accused by the F.B.I. of promoting violence with their music lyrics. However, this did not stop the album consumption and over 1 Million copies were sold by the end of 1989. Radio stationed banned the playing of their music, and at times were stopped from going out on tour. N.W.A. marked the beginning of the new ear; Gangsta Rap music. The group was active from 1986 to 1991 consisting of Eazy E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren, DJ Yella, and Arabian Prince. After splitting Dre, Cube, Eazy and Ren went platinum as solo artist.

Non MUSE Event #1
Lately, I have been attending the SJSU boxing club. It is not a conference sports team but it is part of the school. We compete as well with other school like Berkeley, Santa Clara, San Francisco, and ext. This is a year round team and we compete in national events at least 2 times a month. The boxing ring is located in Pell, and called Pell stadium. We have practice every day from 5 to 7. I usually take the bus to practice and most of the times a ride is offered to come back from my teammates. I have been really enjoying attending boxing, not to mention how it prepares you for self-defense. It’s a perfect way to get in some exercise and do something productive, instead of sitting at my dorm every night. Health means a lot so I’m always checking what I eat and disciplining myself from the candies. I plan on sticking out with boxing because of the competition level and the fact that I’m one of the top boxers in my weight class. Plus I’m starting to see great improvement in my body and I have noticed that I’m not so mad all the time. My sleep has improved and all around I have nothing but positives coming from attending boxing.
Drugs: The usage of Drugs.
Drugs are substances that could ruin even the most successful people. Commonly when people hear about drugs, they think of the most commonly heard (pot, crack, cocaine, ext.). But the truth is that a drug is a substance that when consumed into living organisms, alerts normally functions. This could include anything from Caffeine drinks to the deadliest man made substances.
The amount of freedom and the variety of accessible drugs available to freshman in college is much larger than in high school. Mostly, freshman have not yet experienced those long cram sessions so prescription drugs, caffeine, and hard drugs aren’t used. Most freshman stick to the most commonly heard drugs like pot, alcohol, and cigarettes. The amount of consumption is much larger in college than in high school though. It is not till ones sophomore year that if different drugs are going to be tried that one branches off and tries them.
Amongst my social circle the consumption of drugs is used. Everyone in my social circle drinks responsibly amongst social events. Some branch off and smoke cigarettes occasionally. But alcohol and cigarettes are where the border line is drawn. Personally I wouldn’t judge anyone if they were to go out and try different drugs because I know that there is always that temptation during struggling times. If they were to put themselves in danger or someone else at risk than a concern would be addressed.
The temptations to use drugs are very high. I would say this due to the whole college thing, and how it is known to be the time of your life and the whole party assumption people have behind the idea of college. Since these drugs are so much more accessible the temptation is greater because like one says they are just a phone call away. You also hear about people taking prescription drugs to stay up and finish work, so when work is loaded up the temptation gets greater and greater. Drugs will be something that will be tried by a large portion of college students through out there college years, and that’s just reality. All people can do is educated them and hope it goes in one ear and doesn’t come out the other.
