MUSE EVENT

I attended the MUSE event known as “Where does my Concentration Go”, on 10/27/2009. This event was a broad overview of how easily students get distracted and off the road to success in class. I learned from this event that often students find themselves distracted not due to lack of concentration or interest in the course but to lack of rest (major contributor). Being dis-concentrated doesn’t mean just in class, it could also affect your personal life as well. Often students get dis-concentrated in class because they lack in knowledge of the concept they are covering in class. This just makes them not want to pay attention because they’re lost, so their minds start wondering off. Not being concentrated in some one’s personal life is probably due to lack of sleep, so your mind starts wondering off and you often find yourself in conversations that you have no clue what was just said (kind of like when you read something and you have absolutely no clue what you just read).

I personally learned a lot form this event. If I had to make pick on a certain pointer to improve on, in order to stay focused I would have to gain the amount of sleep I get on a daily basis. If I am mentally tiered then there is not much I could do to keep making myself stay focused in class or in my personal life. To stay focused during class I would have to improve on having a clearer understanding on the subjects being covered. In order to do so I would have to probably review my notes after class and once before the next class meeting.

Music List #4

My top five favorite songs are pretty simple: Most of the Songs that are my favorite are because of the wording. The artist doesn’t matter, if it’s a good song and I like it, than ill listen to it.

1) Freak – a – Leak - Petty Pablo/ this song is probably the best song every created to dance to. The wording is just so bad that it makes everyone let loose and just get their groove on.

2) Put me in the Game - Lil Wayne/ I pretty much listen to this song before I do any sports activities. It gets me going and in the zone (focused).

3) Mad - Neyo/ this is probably the best song a fighting couple could ever listen. This song can cure any damage you ever did to a girl’s heart.

4) Making Good Love - Avant/ this is my favorite song to just get the mood going. It’s one of those songs that you turn on when you’re just cuddling in bed with your friend.

5) You - Plies/ This is another one of those songs you play before you cuddle.

Interviewing 2 Seniors

On May 2009, the following seniors, Omar Bravo and Keith Brown will be graduating from SJSU. Omar will be graduating with an Electrical Engineering Degree and Keith brown will consume a Computer Science Degree. After interviewing the two seniors with the same questions I found that there college experiences have not been the same.

Omar’s college experience has been great. It was not as he had planned it though. He never expected there to be so much freedom. The amount of time that was needed to be dedicated was such a large amount that he believed there was not enough hours in the day to progress. He also never planned for 5 years, to go by so fast and he felt like it was just yesterday when he was checking into Royce. If he could do something different he would dedicate more time to his studies, apply for the scholarships that are out there; since no one ever does, and he would of chose to live on campus a full year instead of transferring out his spring semester of Freshmen year. He started off going into Business because that was his fathers’ field of work but slowly realized that was not what he wanted to do, so he switched to Engineering. He left me with the following advice to freshmen “The girls will still be there when you’re all done with school and your degree is framed on your wall.”

Keith Brown’s college experiences were nothing like what he expected them to be. He thought he could precede classes with the same mentally he had in High School, and quickly learned after the first semester that was not going to work. He also viewed college as the ideal place to party and be wild. If he could back and change something Keith would have enjoyed his freshman year more instead of spending so much time in his dorm. He would also choose to be more social during his first two year. He feels like if he would have joined the Greek life, he would have come out of his shell. Keith never switched his major; he stuck to Computer Science that probably why he always would go home after class and study; because class was so hard. Keith advice for freshman is “ Make school your first priority, and don’t fall behind because every class you fail is costing you money (time is money).”

Non - Muse Event # 1

Over this 4 day weekend I attended a Flag Football Club Meeting and actually got on a team and went out and played Saturday. I really enjoyed going out and actually playing an organized sport, it has been a while since I played (High School). The way this works is you’re in charge of getting your own team together and you enter a briquette and every weekend you play a different team. Then the teams with the best records go on to the playoffs until there is a champion. The games are played on South Campus where you usually would tailgate before a Football Game, all day Friday and Saturday. Unfortunately my team lost our first game. It wasn’t like a blowout game or anything, we just happen to lose by a touchdown. Overall it was a good experience, a great way to come out of the bubble and meet new people, I mean we are in college. I plan on sticking with this club sport because it is a great way to get some exercise (I know you have heard about those freshman 15. Don’t want that to happen)J. Next weekend I promise we will come home with a W. This first game was just a tester to see where we stand. I have a pretty solid team and we know what we have to work on to be a better team. I encourage everyone to go out and play football or if maybe football just isn’t your sports go and enter a club and gave it a shot to see if you enjoy it.

Scholarly Journal Article Summary#1: REVISED

For my Scholarly Journal Article I chose to read “Climbing a Stairway to Heaven: Led Zeppelin’s Celtic Embrace” written by Kent Drummond, the author goes on to ask the public how come Zeppelin became so admired during the 70’s and why he’s remembered and viewed as such a powerful icon till this day. The author states that the major key to Zeppelins outstanding success was the unfolding of musical exchange from 1971 to 1973, (formally known to the public as Celtic Influences). After several years of review Drummond came to the conclusion that the transformation from a dark heavy blues sound to a lighter more rhythm flowing sound was what allowed their career to set off. Zeppelin played, dressed, and did what his fans wanted to see be done and not what media expected him to do. They stood out and were different than every other band, didn’t live the whole rich, flashy and glamourize lifestyle like other bands. Everyone likes change so when they transformed the fans just fell in love with their music and them. This whole change transformation was done by their marketing manager Peter Grant, who played a big role in their success story. Led Zeppelin is viewed as one of the greatest musicians.

Study Tip#3

A good study tip to become a better student is to do a lot of reviewing. What I mean by this is review your notes before class so your properly prepared for class. During lecture time ask questions and make sure you have a clear understanding of the concept that is being covered. After class it is a good idea to review your notes again because most time when taking notes extremely fast you have a tendency to miss write things. During test time, it is a good idea to team up with a class member and review your notes together and try to work on certain problems to make sure you have a clear understanding. This is also a good idea to do when preparing for a mid-term. If you use this study tip I am sure you will start to see your scores increase and grades will rise.

1st Muse Event!: REVISED

On Saturday October 3rd I attended “Love Fest” in San Francisco with classmate Kipp Birtwhistle. I would consider Love Fest as one of those moments that are unexplainable. But I’ll try to anyways; first and for most, it is not your ordinary parade. There are thousands of people from all over dressed up from full on outfits to nothing at all. Everyone is dancing, as they walk down main street (Market Street). Instead of watching a parade march, you are actually in the parade and you walk from booth to booth. Each booth is playing extremely loud noise. I personally was dressed as a pirate from the eye patch to the hook on the hand. What I got out of this event, was about showing love towards one another and peace, and just being out there having fun while being respectful for one another’s space. The experience was awesome I would say, you see things you would never see on a regular day and since everyone is out there just being free you allow yourself to really loosen up and have a good time. What probably made the event so entertaining were all the different spontaneous things I saw. If I had to pick my favorite part of the night I would pick all the lights that were flashing in the night that made it seem like it was still day time. My favorite costume was a girl painted in all silver with two red devil horns. I had lots of fun and I encourage those of you who have not attended the event to do so. Maybe well bump heads with one another. Not to mention I ran into Berto and Troy from class, as they got neglected for a girls number (no hard feelings guys).

Music List #3:REVISED

It's hard for me to actually HATE a song, because if I don't like it I usually just won't play it. Although when out with my Friends or just driving to a certain destination and hearing the radio, there are those songs I can't stand to hear that make me press next. My top 5 most DISLIKED songs are
1. Beautiful Girls
2. Get Low
3. Hott in Here
4. Swing Life Away
5. #1

At first these were some of my favorite songs. I started to dislike them for a simple reason: that was because the radio was over playing them and i got tired of hearing it four times an hour every day. At first I loved the lyrics and now that they've been over played, it's more like when I hear these songs I'm pressing skip of switching the stations. The reason why these are my most hated songs it just plain and simple THE RADIO OVER PLAYED THEM AND MADE ME SICK AND TIERED OF THEM. If that wouldn't have occurred they probably would have ended up on my top 10 Favorite Songs, but unfortunately they didn't.
